Redettes JV win two straight

The Centerville Redettes junior varsity basketball team has won their last two games.

Centerville played on back to back nights Thursday and Friday against Davis County and Sigourney.

On Thursday, Centerville beat Sigourney 28-24. The Redettes held Sigourney to just one point in the fourth quarter. Centerville’s Emily Caylor hit a three pointer in the fourth quarter to give Centerville the lead and eventual win.

“We made just enough plays to win,” Centerville JV coach Jeff Moore said. “Emily Caylor hit a big three to finally give us the lead in the fourth quarter. Our defense late in the game was tremendous, just a great effort.”

Caylor and Kylee Joiner both scored eight points for the team high in the game. Centerville was 8-4 at the end of the first quarter. They went into the second half down 15-11. The Redettes gained strength in the second half, outscoring Sigourney 17-9.
The next day, the Redettes beat Davis County at home 34-32.

The Redettes were down 11-8 after the first quarter. They came back to take 19-17 lead at the end of the first half.

“Just a great effort, Davis County beat us up pretty bad earlier and to come back and beat them was a lot of fun,” Moore said. “Taylor got us going, hitting three, 3-point baskets and Lexi Riggall played her best game so far this season.”

On Friday, Jan. 17, Centerville lost 40-34 against Albia. Tieden and Joiner each scored 10 points while Libby Sebolt added in nine of her own.

The Redettes trailed by nine points early in the game, but would slowly come back into the picture in the second quarter and through the second half. However, their comeback attempt would fall six points short.

“Our effort was great defensively,” Moore said. “We were slow starting on offense but it picked up after the first quarter. Tieden had her best game as did Libby. We needed to knock down a few more free throws and a couple layups and we may have been able to come away with a win.”

On Friday, Dec. 13, Davis County beat the Redettes 35-13. The Redettes fell to Eddyville 45-26 on Thursday, Dec. 19. On Friday, Jan. 10, the Redettes fell to Chariton 39-18. Centerville lost to Ft. Madison 51-13 on Monday, Jan. 13.

Centerville (3-7) traveled to Wayne yesterday. They’ll travel to Eddyville on Friday for a JV/V double header starting at 6 p.m.
