Redettes sweep Albia

The Centerville Redettes won two games against Albia in fall softball exhibition games on Sunday, September 15.
In game one, Centerville beat Albia 7-4 before winning 13-6 in the second game.
Brad Riggall and Eric Hendrick are coaching the team, as state rules say a high school coach can only coach his team during the high school softball season.
“I’m so thankful Brad and Eric were willing to spend some time coaching the team this fall,” Redettes head coach Nic Belloma said. “The girls wouldn’t be able to play this fall without these guys willing to coach the team as the high school coaching staff can’t take part in coaching any games outside of the high school season.”
The team played Sunday’s doubleheader without practice time, but still managed to put up 12 hits, 20 runs and only committed three errors.
“Without any practice time I didn’t know how we would look but we saw a lot of good things,” Riggall said. “Our pitchers threw well, we made most of the plays defensively and the hitters swung the bats fairly well. All in all, it was a good day.”
Alyssa Barger led the Redettes with her 4-for-6 performance at the plate between the two games. In the second game, she went 3-for-3 with two doubles. She drove in a total of five runs.
Colleen Boyle and Libby Sebolt were awarded the wins from the circle in the two respective games.
The Redettes will play another fall exhibition game at home against Wayne on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 3 p.m.
